Since its foundation in 1983, the Suwon City Chorale (SCC) has given about 1,000 performances, aspiring “World-class choral music” with touching harmony. Participating in renowned international festivals including the 4th World Symposium on Choral Music and the Oregon Bach Festival, the SCC has promoted Korean choral music in the international community as an ambassador of culture.

The SCC had a successful international touring performance in August 2003, including a concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall under invitation by the Association of British Choral Directors (ABCD), an invitation concert in Vienna, and a joint concert with the Prague Symphonietta Orchestra where they performed Mozart’s Requiem. At those venues, the audience and choral music conductors gave great feedback, saying, “that sound is the essence of chorale”, “they are better at European music than Europeans”, and “Korean chorale music is amazing”. And the SCC had the 2nd European tour for celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Chorale including UK, also under invitation by the ABCD, Romania, Hungary and France in August 2008. With praises from world-renowned musicians who were at the concerts, which includes “world-class chorale and the best chorale”, the SCC positioned itself as a world-level ensemble.

Now, the SCC would like to share fans’ love from home and abroad. In the effort, the SCC visited the African Institute of Music in Uganda whose students do music seeking a new hope with not many musical resources. The SCC shared sophisticated Korean chorale music and gave a heart touching performance as a present.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2013, the SCC successfully had “30thYearAnniversaryConcert”. Also,“Suwon Chorale Festival 2013”, which was held for sixteen days with the slogan of “Harmony of Friendship sings for Suwon” gained praise including “the event hugely contributed to widening the base of chorale music”. In addition, the SCC was cheered by the audience at many touring concerts, including “Solo Concert at Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall”, “Concert for the 60th Anniversary of Korea-US Mutual Defense”, “Invitation Concert at Yale University”. Every concert was full of audience, attracting a standing ovation, which fully showed the Chorale’s 30 year of history on the world stage.

The SCC performed representative baroque and romantic many music and gained considerable praise. Recently, the SCC performed a Bach's mass in b minor, BWV232. The special performance won lots of fans with its artistry. Recently, the SCC stared the new journey with the 5rd artistic director and conductor James Kim, the SCC will keep doing its best to express and share the true beauty of music and touching harmony through even more rich and unique songs.
